In this blog we will list the currently applicable minimum wages of all countries that are in Celery. Employers are obliged to pay at least these wages to their employees.

In Aruba and Surinam there is no minimum wage per certain age. In these countries the minimum wage applies to all ages.

In the Caribbean Netherlands, Curaçao and St. Maarten, a distinction is made by age, there are minimum wages per age for 16 to 20-year-olds and a minimum wage for 21-year and older,
according to the following percentages:

  • 21 years e.o.   100%
  • 20 years          90%
  • 19 years          85%
  • 18 years          75%
  • 17/16 years     65%

Aruba
When entering any employment contract involving an employment relationship, an employee who is 18 years or older is entitled to a wage for the work performed by him, at least up to the
amount set by law below the minimum wage.

For the largest category of employers called ‘industry and construction’, the minimum wage can be divided on the basis of working hours into:

  1. 40-hour work week;
  2. 42-hour work week;
  3. 44-hour work week;
  4. 45-hour work week.

The minimum wages for this as of January 1, 2023 are:

  • monthly AWG 1,893.40;
  • weekly AWG 441.60.

This is converted per hour (in AWG):

Average AWG 10.35 per hour, which amounts to USD 5.75 per hour.

Caribbean Netherlands
As of January 1, 2023, the following minimum wages apply to employees aged 21 or older with a 40-hour working week:

Per month Per hour
Bonaire USD 1,236 USD 7.13
St. Eustatius USD 1,446 USD 8.34
Saba USD 1,434 USD 8.27

For 20-year-olds and younger, the aforementioned percentages of the above amounts apply.

Curacao
As of January 1, 2023, the minimum wage has been adjusted to ANG 1,854.67 gross per month for employees aged 21 or older with a 40-hour working week. This amounts to a gross hourly wage of ANG 10.70.

For 20-year-olds and younger, the aforementioned percentages of the above amounts apply.

Mentioned hourly wage amounts to USD 5.95 gross per hour.

St. Maarten
As of 1 January 2023, the minimum wage has been adjusted to ANG 1,724.67 gross per month for employees aged 21 or older with a 40-hour working week. This amounts to a gross hourly wage of ANG 9.95.

For 20-year-olds and younger, the aforementioned percentages of the above amounts apply.

Mentioned hourly wage amounts to USD 5.52 gross per hour.

Surinam
As of March 1, 2023, the minimum wage will be adjusted to SRD 30.00 gross per hour. With a 40-hour workweek, that would amount to a gross salary of SRD 5,200.00 gross per month. And per July 1, 2023 the minimum wage will be increased further to SRD 35.00 per hour.

As reported earlier in this blog, these amounts apply to all ages. The previous distinction based on employees in shops, catering and security companies no longer seems to apply.

Mentioned hourly wage currently amounts to USD 0,86 gross per hour. The hourly wage per July 1 amounts to USD 1.01 per hour.
